A Real Aggie thinks…
Oct 19th
Someday’s when I read blogs, forums and other news from my alma mater it makes me want to come home so much sooner. I had a blast at homecoming, despite not really feeling the love or even seeing the students go crazy after winning homecoming. Geez, it has been 7 years. Anyone who came into A&T from 2004 through 2010 never saw a homecoming win, in fact there was almost a whole graduating class that could have never seen an Aggie Victory.
So what if I came back to A&T, what would I do? Should I work in Student Affairs, oversee student activities and encourage student government to govern instead of program? Could I work in development and encourage private donors to give to A&T. Hey, wouldn’t being the Executive Director of the Alumni Association be a cool job?
Well, these are thoughts…. at the end of the day I know that one day I’m coming home to A&T and we all know what that day will be like
Taking a Close Look at the U.S. News Historically Black Colleges and University Rankings

Thank you! Far too often people get wrapped up in these rankings not realizing how they are computed or even if they matter. At the end of the day, as I tell my students as they look at institutio
As a graduate of North Carolina A&T, I am excited about what is going on and if we want to be very serious about these “rankings” its important to compare ourselves to our HBCU peers. However, its more important to make sure that we are competitiv

Was it me? A research project on Love
Sep 12th
I can be such a researcher, meticulously pouring over information that sometimes I believe I should not even have access to. When you research, you inevitably come into the process with some type of preconceived notion of the matter and looking for sources to support you. However, sometimes in the process you find out that well, damnit, you’re just absolutely an ass for even thinking that there was some research out there to support your claims.
So what to do when there is nothing to support your claims, well really there is more out there to say that you might as well just walk away from the project? Then again, the next rule of research is make sure your sources are reliable and still relevant. So the next step now is to determine, are the sources still relevant?
One of these Days
Jul 18th
One of these days I will wake up in the morning and truly be happy how I have been blessed. At this age so many of us have to motivate ourselves to get up and go to jobs that we are not truly happy at but it pays the bills and allows up to gain the experience that we need to go forward. One of my close friends made the observation that for most of our circle we are grossly underpaid for the work that we do engendering generational change. I look at my friends, outside of the engineers most of my friends are in a career path that advocate for social justice in one way or another. We are all working towards seeing the day that our ancestors were dreaming about.
One of these days I am going to wake up in my own room in my own home. I miss having my own space again. This search has taken a toll on me. So many options, but yet so many hurdles standing in the way. Its purely amazing how people do not have the common courtesy to at least own up to their mistakes.

You did what I could have never done: Memorial Day Thoughts
May 27th
Peace and Blessings to everyone as we enter this Memorial Day weekend. I am grateful to such honorable family members who willingly chose to serve our country.
Grandpa Bellamy has many memories of his time serving in the Army, many of which he has shared with us. Granted there are other memories and stories that he has chosen not to share and from his service he is entitled to continued care and respect as an honored veteran. What he did is a testament the importance of this weekend. Similar to his stories, it is interesting to hear about my Uncle’s times in the military. To see both my grandfather and uncle’s army portraits hanging in the house, it is a continued reminder that they chose to be selfless and willing servants to protect and serve our country.
This weekend gives me a reason to be proud also, maybe not as proud as my grandparents were to say that two of their children had achieved the rank of Colonel in the United States Air Force, but I am proud nonetheless. I remember the retirement ceremony of my uncle, Colonel Quincy Purvis (USAF, ret.). To hear his colleagues speak about his leadership and to read highlights of his work exemplifies the importance of our armed forces. Now, my aunt Colonel Sherry Purvis-Wynn (USAFR, ret.) may not remember the videos she sent back to us when she was stationed overseas or the fact that the picture of my aunt and uncle (in their case brother and sister) both in uniform at Andrews left a lasting image to me. They both served honorably and represented their families, our alma mater North Carolina A&T State University and their country with only the highest level of courage, dignity and honor.
Throughout my life I have been blessed to know so many members of our armed forces who have played a key role in shaping who I am today. These individuals include BG Clara Adams-Ender (USA, ret), Ralph Cooper, Jim Duncan just to name a few.
This is a time for us reflect and honor. I urge you to do the same.
