Aggie Pride
#GHOE – A $35 Fish Sandwich… how about a $616 fish sandwich?
Oct 12th
This evening we received an e-mail saying “Sign this Petition,” a perfectly timed petition in regards to the new Aggie Game Zone around the stadium. The e-mail centered around some idiotic argument that $35 was too much to pay for a fish sandwich, how about a $616 fish sandwich??? A full-time student at A&T would pay $616 per year in athletic fees thus meaning their homecoming fish sandwich from someone’s tailgate would have cost $616.00.
Alumni and friends should view their silly argument from the perspective of the student, the people who provide more support for the athletics programs than anyone else right now. So for alumni who don’t give back their time or money… spend $35 and buy a damn game ticket.
The Death of #GHOE
Oct 12th
I contemplated for a while on what to say on the occasion of Homecoming at my alma mater, North Carolina A&T State University. Unlike so many other people I can say that we truly have “The Greatest Homecoming on Earth…and Beyond.” I have seen it grow and develop in ways that many others could not even describe. So just like any other Aggie I am excited about Homecoming, but as an alumnus each year becomes more and more important to me. Growing up with so many family members who graduated from A&T, I used to be the little kid tagging along to tailgates at the stadium, vendors at the Sheraton, waking up early for the parade and spending time on campus being referred to as “Little Bellamy.” Those memories have always influenced my perceptions of homecoming and really go back to the roots of homecoming, where we sought to bring back alumni from all over to update them on the status of the university, fun and fellowship. Best Friends
Sep 6th
They tell us you meet your best friends for life when you go to college. Over this weekend I got to spend time with a couple of people who I truly consider my best friends. In my case I have a few best friends, but the two most important ones in a variety of aspects One of them is getting married and I laughed at his fiancé’s use of the term BFF. Nevertheless, what his fiancé is learning right now is that there is this team who is apart of this package that she is getting right now. However, the one thing that I hope is that they are truly happy and doing their due diligence in making this relationship work.
The other major part of this trip is seeing the original friend from A&T. Its very interesting that after seven years somethings have not changed, but most other things have evolved to their present state. To this day I am still learning how to exert myself and try to even out the playing field. She knows my every move, and I am at sometimes still shooting in the dark. However, it is good and pleasing to spend such time with her. Right now as life is changing, I firmly believe this and many other aspects will change overtime.
When we talk about best friends, it is completely possible to have more than one of them, and I firmly believe that you may have them of the opposite gender despite many naysayers. The things that are consistent with all of them are their abilities to be supportive during the good times, bad times and even the most difficult times. You should be able to trust your best friend in all things, which at times even requires walking away, reassessing things and rebuilding that trust.
One of the things that I am still working on is building upon communication skills. However, with these friends many of those hurdles have eased theirselves because over the years it has been worked out and evolved. Well, my flight is boarding and it’s time to head on back. It was good seeing these two and I will see them again very soon.
Seven Years Ago, I was a freshman

Working in higher education is very interesting, everyday I get a chance to reflect upon my own experiences as I help students transition into this experience. Seven years ago I started this journey when I moved into my first residence hall at North Carolina A&T. The process wasn’t always smooth, trying to meet new people, re-adjust to my original hometown and even get myself into higher education mindset. While my adjust period was not that hard; however, in my personal and professional experiences the hardest part of this process can be less on the students, but really on the parents. More >
To be proud of my parents…
May 19th
Thanks to DDOT’s Communication staff for posting the video of the nomination. Nomination of Terry Bellamy (via DDOT Videos) DDOT like most other agencies in the District of Columbia provides functions of a local and state-level transportation agency. Since January, he has led the agency on an interim basis and this is just further confirmation of the Mayor’s trust in him. Overall, this is just kind of a big deal…
During the press conference I was texting my mother and sister who were both watching via the live-stream. It was hilarious that in real-time both of them were like “Dad forgot Kendra!” However, it was very much a proud family moment even if we were all not physically in the Wilson Building for the 5 minutes of the spotlight. It was an very awe-inspiring moment for as I look at one of my role-models and try to take on some of his characteristics, as I have done with my mother.
The role of good parents is to set examples of positive behaviors that their children can draw from. It should not be expected that children draw every behavior from their parents, but they should be the role model for them. Everyday I realize how much I am like my mother, in the way we interact with each other, our students and in our commitment to education. Many of my mother’s colleagues have even noticed that in similar situations we have the same exact expressions and reactions. Through her examples I have learned the importance of being an educator and I try my best to remind her that she needs to go on back in start her Doctorate before I do.
So I ask you, are you proud of your parents?
